Starting on Monday, the Order of Notaries will provide, free of charge, a service to help people affected by the storms obtain the essential documentation they need to hand over to insurance companies.

The information was revealed this Saturday by the president on SIC Notícias. He also announced that the Order will propose to the Ministry of Justice that the State directly provide the necessary information to insurersrelieving citizens of the burden of “doing paperwork”.

“The problem in these tragedies is that in many cases people lose or are left without documents they need to prove they are owners. [de casas ou automóveis]either to ask for help from the State or from insurance”, said Jorge Baptista da Silva.

To face this scenario, the Order of Presidents will make available, from Monday, a service to help citizens obtain the necessary documentation, simply go to the registry offices that are open.

“There are other entities that can help with documents, such as Finance and land registry offices. This will all depend on whether services are able to open in the affected locations”, he added.
