Palmeiras announces the signing of Colombian Jhon Arias – 02/07/2026 – Sports

Palmeiras announced this Saturday morning (7) the signing of Colombian Jhon Arias, in an agreement with Wolverhampton, from England. At 28 years old, the striker, a Fluminense idol, signed an agreement with the São Paulo team until December 2029.

With the Rio tricolor, Arias was a semi-finalist in the Club World Cup, in 2025, and champion of the Copa Libertadores (2023) and the Recopa Sul-Americana (2024). He also participated in winning Carioca’s second championship (2022-23). He scored 47 goals and provided 55 assists in 230 matches. He arrived at the club in 2021, coming from Independiente Santa Fé, in Colombia.

For the English team, to which he transferred in July 2025, he scored one goal in 23 matches, 14 as a starter, in the Premier League. Wolverhampton are bottom of the tournament and are practically condemned to relegation. Arias scored another goal in the FA Cup.

Palmeiras coach, Portuguese Abel Ferreira, had asked for reinforcements in a squad that lost experienced players such as goalkeeper Weverton, who signed with Grêmio.

“You don’t need to be very intelligent to see that if there are departures, there must be arrivals,” said Ferreira at a recent press conference.

Arias is the second player signed by Palmeiras in 2026, after midfielder Marlon Freitas, presented on January 8. The Colombian will be the 11th from his country to wear the white shirt, after Angulo, Armero, Asprilla, Atuesta, Borja, Lozano, Mina, Muñoz, Richard Ríos and Rincón.
