The order imposes a system that allows the US to impose additional duties on imports from any country that directly or indirectly buys, imports or otherwise acquires goods or services from Iran.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order this Friday, 6, reaffirming the ongoing national emergency regarding Iran and establishing the process for imposing tariffs on countries that purchase any goods or services from Tehran.
The order imposes a system that allows the U.S. to impose additional duties on imports from any country that directly or indirectly buys, imports, or otherwise acquires goods or services from Iran.
“The President may modify the Order if circumstances change, in response to retaliation, or if Iran or an affected country takes significant steps to address the national emergency and align with the United States,” the White House said in a statement.

According to the Trump administration, the measure aims to protect national security and American interests, as Iran pursues a policy that “pursues nuclear capabilities, support for terrorism, development of ballistic missiles and regional destabilization.”
In parallel, the Republican also signed an order that reprioritizes the list of customers for US weapons in favor of countries with greater defense spending and strategic importance in their region.
