The former president of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, assured this Friday that he sees the best atmosphere in Venezuela in the last ten years, while stating that he has “great confidence” in the president in charge of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez. The former president of the Government visited Caracas this Friday to hold a meeting with the acting president.
“I have a very long-range relationship, almost daily… In record time, steps are being taken that are producing a new way of breathing in Venezuela,” Zapatero said in statements to the media from Caracas, where he is attending a conference on peace and coexistence invited by the Venezuelan president.
The former head of the Executive has continued to highlight the work of Rodríguez, who believes that he has managed to create “hope” in a very short time after “many very difficult years.” Likewise, he has assured that he has no doubt that the promise of the Venezuelan Executive regarding the amnesty law for political prisoners will be fulfilled.
The National Assembly of Venezuela is now in the first reading of this amnesty law that allows for “decisive” steps (in the words of Delcy Rodríguez) to be taken towards peace in the Latin American country after the departure of Nicolás Maduro from power.
Forgiveness, reconciliation and reunion
The former president, after meeting with the opposition and government, has stated that “the best processes” have been built through dialogue. “There is a rebirth of Venezuela,” he highlighted. “Each of us is better when we put forgiveness, reconciliation and reunion as our great ideals,” he added.
The former socialist president has participated in negotiations between the Chavista regime and the opposition and, according to the Government of Pedro Sánchez, has played a crucial role in the release of political prisoners.
Rodríguez hopes to release the pesos “at the latest” on Friday
The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, has estimated that all political prisoners could be released “at the latest” next Friday once the amnesty law is approved in second reading by the deputies of Parliament.
“We hope that he will enter next Tuesday,” he said during a visit to a detention center known as Zone 7 of the Bolivarian National Police, located in the metropolitan district of Caracas.
Rodríguez has stated that “forgiveness does not generate any type of reservation.” “In these complex times that we live in, we must be fair, ask for forgiveness and also forgive,” said the President of Parliament on social networks, where he published a video in which he appears hugging relatives of political prisoners.
