Brazil leads hiring in the January window… but the hole only gets bigger

The model is always the same: spend to try to grow

Arias was the last major signing in Brazilian football this window

Brazilian football closed the January window as the one that hired the most in the world: 456 international players, US$ 180 million spent (FIFA).

Absolute leader.

And even so: Most of the big clubs remain in the red, with billion-dollar debts growing and recurring losses year after year.

The model is always the same: spend to try to grow.

However, in practice, debts grow faster than income.

Many people today experience a temporary illusion of liquidity — money from the sale of rights, advances, debt rollovers.

It seems like everything is fine… until the next crisis.

A few will be able to get out of the hole (serious management + profitable resale).

Most seem to just be digging deeper while they think they’re climbing.

This season that has just started can show who really has stamina.

Or just someone who was postponing the inevitable.

And you: do you think the model is still sustainable or are we just kicking the problem forward?
