Correios begins sales of commercial buildings and abandoned units

Correios began the sale of properties that is part of the restructuring plan to help contain the state-owned company’s serious financial crisis. The expectation is to raise up to R$1.5 billion this year, according to an official statement released this Friday (6).

The initial focus is to clear unused properties. In this first wave, 21 units will be offered to the market, including administrative buildings, former operational complexes, land, warehouses, stores and functional apartments. The first auctions will be on February 12th and 26th, in digital competitions, open to individuals and legal entities.

In the list, there are properties that are quite deteriorated. This is the case of a commercial building located in the center of São Paulo, neighboring the region where Cracolândia operated for years. The photos on the Correios website show abandoned facilities, slabs with accumulated rubbish and a graffiti-covered facade. The minimum bid there is R$7 million. There are also street shopping malls in several cities in the interior, deteriorated by the time they were closed. In these cases, the values ​​start from R$16 thousand.

. The list has an eight-story commercial building in Belo Horizonte, which accepts bids from R$8.3 million. The property is in the Floresta neighborhood, one of the oldest in the capital of Minas Gerais. Another property on the list is a residential apartment in Barra, one of the most valued in Salvador. The bid there is part of R$524 thousand.

Correios has around 2,300 properties spread across the country, including stores, distribution centers and offices, among other units to support the extensive mail and merchandise delivery network throughout the country. Of this total, at least 60 to 70 units are idle.
