Court orders preventive detention of the suspect of murdering teacher Juliana Mattos Lima Santiago, aged 41

The court decreed, this Saturday (7), the preventive detention of the suspect and clerk of the Civil Police of Rondônia Juliana Mattos Lima Santiago, aged 41. The crime occurred on Friday night (6), inside a classroom at Faculdade Metropolitana, in the capital Porto Velho.

Juliana was rescued, but could not survive the injuries caused by knife blows. The accused, João Júnior, is college student and was arrested red handed.

At the custody hearing, held on Saturday morning, the Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that it requested his preventive detention as a guarantee of public order. The MP repudiated the act classified as cowardly and stated that he will act firmly in investigating the crime.

The Aparício Carvalho Group, responsible for the college, expressed deep regret and said that the violence will not erase the legacy of the professor, who had her career as a reference for academic excellence, ethics and dignity.

The Legislative Assembly of Rondônia also expressed outrage at Juliana’s death and said that “it is not acceptable for women to continue to be victims of violence, especially in places dedicated to education, dialogue and the construction of futures”.

The report was unable to contact the defense of the accused of killing the teacher.
