Tokyo – People in Japan will elect a new parliament on Sunday. Surveys had previously suggested a clear victory for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the early elections. The first predictions about the election outcome were expected after the polling stations closed at 8 p.m. (local time, 12 p.m. CET). The vote was made more difficult by heavy snowfall in several regions of the country.
