Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajčák has a scandal around his neck, which was triggered by the publication of new files related to the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The American financier committed suicide in 2019 in a prison in New York. According to the investigation, he built an illegal network in which he provided underage girls to wealthy people.
Because of his communication with Epstein, Lajčák ended up as an adviser to the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico (Smer-SD), however, he repeatedly denied that he knew about the actions and suspicions associated with Epstein, or that he participated in them. Lajčák condemned Epstein’s actions. “My relationship with him was all about words, not actions. There was no sex, no money,” emphasized the diplomat in an interview for .
“When I read the news today, I feel like a fool. It was a private conversation – let’s be honest, who would want the whole nation to read their news. At the very least, I made a poor judgment call.” he admitted. In the interview, he poured ashes on his head. “It’s just stupid male egos in action, the communication of two vain guys,” he added, saying he had never been to any of Epstein’s private events.
Challenging life with a diplomat
The ex-minister’s wife is the well-known presenter Jarmila Lajčáková Hargašová, who has withdrawn from the public eye. In 2023, she accepted an invitation to the talk show A little differently with Adela, where she admitted that life with a diplomat was not easy. The upbringing of daughters Vanesa and Lara was mostly on her because her partner was often on the road. You can watch the video at the beginning of the article.
“At the time when I was a single mother – which I have been all my life, because my husband was always away somewhere – I am really the most honest… When I was receiving all kinds of awards and I wanted to be successful in my work, I told myself that I the success at work doesn’t really make me happy and that I would trade it for a family and I really wanted one more child,” she confided to Adele Vincze.
Lajčáková Hargašová also remembered the moments when the diplomat was at home and their older daughter was so used to being only with her that she used the feminine gender even with him. It seemed strange to the girl that she should speak differently. The presenter described how Lajčák reacted to it. “It seemed very sad to him, because she once told him when he came home for the weekend that, daddy, how long are you going to stay with us? And that’s not a very pleasant question you want to hear from your child,” said Lajčáková Hargašová.
