Palmeiras beats Corinthians and wins Women’s Super Cup – 02/07/2026 – Sport

Palmeiras won their first Women’s Super Cup title this Saturday (7), by beating Corinthians on penalties, 5-4, at Arena Barueri, in Barueri (SP), after a 1-1 draw.

The Alviverde team’s first game of the season, the achievement represents the second national championship for the club, which won the Copa do Brasil in November and, with that, guaranteed a place in the Super Cup.

The goals in regulation time were scored by Jaqueline, for Corinthians, and Bia Zaneratto, for Palmeiras. In the penalties, goalkeeper Tapia shone by catching three penalties, from Gabi Zanotti, Jhonson and Tamires.

The tournament debuted a new format this year. Previously played between eight clubs, the competition became a unique confrontation between the current winners of the Brazilian Championship (Corinthians) and the Copa do Brasil (Palmeiras), just as occurs in men’s football. The decision was decided by draw, won by Palmeiras.

In search of their fourth Super Cup title, Corinthians had a good performance in the FIFA Champions Cup, in which they qualified to the final after beating Gotham FC, from the United States, and finished runner-up after losing 3-2 to Arsenal, in extra time of the final.

Repeating the line-up from the London tournament, Brabas opened the scoring at Arena Barueri after just five minutes. Jaqueline received a throw from Duda Sampaio on the right and, with space, advanced to cut into the area and finish with a beautiful left-handed shot.

Afterwards, under heavy rain, the game was stopped for a few minutes to assist Corinthians goalkeeper Lelê, who was replaced with suspected concussion after colliding with Bia Zaneratto’s knee.

The black and white team almost made it big with Gabi Zanotti heading in a free kick, but the ball stopped at the post.

From then on, Palmeiras began to create more in attack, with good infiltrations into the opponent’s area. At the end of the first half, there were a lot of complaints from the Palestrinas, who wanted a penalty for Zanotti’s handball, but the referee ordered the game to continue.

Three minutes later, at 39, the equalizer came with Andressinha’s throw to the head of Zaneratto, who arranged his return to the black and white at the beginning of the year after two seasons at Kansas City Current, in the United States.

The second highest scorer in the history of the Palmeiras team, the striker surpassed Tamires and goalkeeper Nicole to reach the mark of 56 goals in 84 matches.

Before the break, Brabas went on the attack three more times, once with Letícia Teles and twice with Jaqueline. The scorer of Corinthians’ first goal had a great chance at the end of the first half, but goalkeeper Tapia made a great save.

At the beginning of the second half, two missed opportunities: for Palmeiras, Brena received the ball alone and facing the goal and ended up sending it over. In the next move, Corinthians midfielder Duda Sampaio advanced freely into the area and also sent the ball wide.

The black and white team had greater control of the game, but were unable to convert. The post also helped prevent the second goal, from Andressa Alves, who shot from the edge of the area, saw the ball deflect off Rhay Coutinho and hit the crossbar before leaving.

While Palmeiras pressed in the final minutes, Corinthians looked for counterattacks. Brena shot wide once again and, in stoppage time, Érika avoided the Palmeiras goal by clearing the ball close to the line.

On penalties, Tapia took the first penalty, from Gabi Zanotti. It was up to Nicole, Lelê’s replacement, to save Glaucia’s shot to equalize. Brena isolated the fifth penalty and Jhonson, who had the title ball, stopped again in Tapia’s hands. In the alternates, Tainá Maranhão converted and Tamires lost, consecrating the Palmeiras goalkeeper.

“The day I leave here I want to leave my name marked in the history of Palmeiras. [a conquista] It’s not just mine, it’s everyone’s work, from colleagues who do an extraordinary job, an analysis of how female players [adversárias] they beat. It helps to do what I did,” Tapia said after the game ended.

“We start the season as we started: champions. We have to respect Palmeiras a little more.”

Present in all five Super Cup decisions, Corinthians had only lost before in 2025, to São Paulo, also on penalties.

The title guarantees Palmeiras a prize of R$1 million, while the black and white team receives R$600,000.
