How author Renate Welsh found her way back to speaking after her stroke


Not being able to speak is one of the most terrible things people can suffer from, says Renate Welsh. The now 88-year-old children’s book author knows this from her own experience: a stroke temporarily robbed her of speech in 2021 and plunged her into a fate that she herself describes as the “loss of losses”. A situation from which she was only able to slowly fight her way out – not least by writing her book, which was published in 2023 Me without words.
