The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, congratulated his successor, António José Seguro, who won the second round of the presidential elections, and will receive him on Monday at 4:00 pm.
According to a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, the head of State “he called António José Seguro to congratulate him on his victory in the presidential elections, wishing him all the best and success for the mandate that the Portuguese gave him”which will begin on March 9th.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed to António José Seguro “all availability to ensure the institutional transition” and “for this purpose the elected President will be received, in Belém, tomorrow at 4:00 pm”, reads the same note.
António José Seguro, former secretary general of the PS, today won the second round of the presidential elections, which he contested with Chega’s president, André Ventura.
Meanwhile, the President of the Republic released another note, stating that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “called André Ventura, the second candidate selected for the second round of the presidential elections, congratulating him for his contribution to the institutional process of electing the President of the Republic”.
In mid-December, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced his intention to invite the next President of the Republic to lunch at the Belém Palace the day after the election, “to hand over the transition portfolio to him”.
