The Mexican government announced on Sunday (8.Feb.2026) the sending of more than 814 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba. In , the country reported that, in a Mexican operation ordered by the country’s president, (Morena, left), two vessels left the port of Veracruz on their way to the Caribbean island, loaded with “food of first necessity”.

According to the text, on one ship, the Papaloapan, 536 tons of items were sent such as “liquid milk, meat, biscuits, rice, beans, tuna in water, sardines and vegetable oil in addition to personal hygiene items”. Isla Holbox transported 277 tons of powdered milk. Here is the statement, in Spanish (PDF – 5 MB).

Vessels should take 4 days to reach their destination. There are still around 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans awaiting shipment.

Cuba is facing an energy and supply crisis caused mainly by the pressure exerted by the United States on the island. The president of the USA, (Republican Party), declared that Cuba will not count on help from Venezuela.

The Americans stopped sending Venezuelan oil to the island after January 3.

Furthermore, Trump signed a letter to countries that send oil to Cuba. Mexico was one of the main countries of the measure and, on January 27, the Cubans.

Regarding humanitarian aid, Mexico stated that “keeps alive its tradition of solidarity with the people of Latin America and, in particular, with the people of Cuba”.

The statement says that Mexico “He has always helped brotherly peoples who need him”. The text reads: “Thus, in recent months, we have sent aid to different countries that needed our support, in the face of the fires in California, in the United States, and in Chile, the floods in Texas and the tragedies caused by natural disasters in several nations on the continent”.

The Latin American country declared that, with these actions, “reaffirms the humanist principles and solidarity vocation that guide it, as well as its commitment to international cooperation between peoples, especially those in emergency and vulnerable situations, who require humanitarian assistance”.
