Hard ones could lead to unnecessary irritation, so it is worth purchasing good quality products and then keeping them in good condition. What should you do if you wash your towels as usual but they still become hard and rough? There is a cheap ingredient that will make them soft enough.
Stiff, rough towels this is a popular problem. After washing them in the washing machine as usual, they suddenly become scratchy like sandpaper and even though they smell fresh and are clean, we don’t want them to come into contact with our skin.
Usually the problem is not the quality of the material itself, although of course it is possible. However, the culprit for roughness in towels is usually hard water and poorly selected laundry detergents, which stiffen the fibers. Mineral deposits from hard water penetrate the material and settle on it. It’s also possible that we placed the towels in an overloaded washing machine.
The towels are made of cotton with a loop structure, which makes them soft and absorbent. The deposition of calcium and magnesium ions on the fibers, as well as washing the towels in the wrong way (at high temperature, with intense spinning) causes the fibers to clump. Fabric softeners tend to seal the fibers rather than loosen them.
All this is responsible for changing the structure of towels, which go from soft and pleasant to the touch to rough and unpleasant.
An inconspicuous ingredient from the pharmacy will help rough towels regain their former softness. It is cheap and safe for the washing machine, and at the same time effective. It is pharmaceutical glycerin that binds water and increases the elasticity of fibers. Unlike fabric softeners, glycerin does not stick to the fibers, but penetrates them, increasing their flexibility and increasing resistance to stiffening.
It is worth adding glycerin to each wash so that the towels gradually regain their former softness. After the first wash, they will be visibly fluffier. For this purpose, add glycerin (3 tablespoons) directly to the drum.
It’s also important to pay attention to other things. We should wash towels separately, not with clothes or clothes. The ideal washing temperature is 40 or 60 degrees Celsius, and the spinning speed should be a maximum of 800 rpm. If we follow these recommendations, towels that have become rough over time will become soft and pleasantly fluffy again.
