The national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, stated this Monday, the 9th, that technological advances should lead to a discussion about reducing working hours, but argued that the debate should be done in a “considered” way and not in a “hassle”. The end of the 6 x 1 journey is seen as one of the priorities of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government for 2026.
“It is a topic that needs to be debated calmly, with consideration. I think that the National Congress is the most appropriate place for this topic to be debated, because Congress reflects the thinking of society… We have to talk, we have to debate, there is no need, in fact, to take any drastic measures”, declared Edinho at a lunch with businesspeople promoted by Lide.
The PT president stated, however, that technological changes such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotization are part of a global debate. “We will have to debate how a society that will increase productive capacity and reduce the use of labor, how this society will organize itself.”
Opportunity with security!
Edinho defended an analysis of professions that are already outside the 6×1 and cited commerce as a sector that still works on this journey. “There are many professions that no longer work 6×1, and look at those that still work, which is commerce, especially commerce and service areas. From there, build solutions. I think dialogue is the best instrument for building consensus”, he said.
The PT member once again defended the regulation of artificial intelligence, not only in elections. “We also have to regulate citizens’ daily lives. But the electoral process, if there is no strict and effective regulation, we will have major distortions.”
