SpaceX prioritizes the Moon and postpones plans for Mars, says Musk

Businessman spoke of a “self-sustainable city” on the Moon in 10 years; Marte remains in the company’s long-term plans

The businessman announced on Sunday (8.fev.2026) that to changed its focus to building a “self-sustainable city” on the Moon, leaving aside the project on Mars. The statement was made in on X, a social network owned by the entrepreneur.

According to the businessman, although Mars remains in the company’s plans, the immediate focus became Earth’s natural satellite, for logistical reasons. The lunar project could be realized in less than 10 years, Musk said. “The absolute priority is to guarantee the future of civilization and the Moon is faster”, he stated.
