The German prosecutor’s office accused the Ukrainian of preparing attacks on the orders of the Russian secret service. Their goal was to provoke damage by exploding packages on the territory of Europe, Reuters reported.
German prosecutors announced on Monday that they have charged a Ukrainian citizen with planning the attacks, which were behind the Russian secret service. According to the prosecutor’s office, the goal was to detonate explosives in packages in Europe. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.
The Russian embassy in Berlin has not yet responded to a request for comment on the allegation, but Moscow has denied it in the past.
On May 13, 2025, the Swiss police detained a suspect, identified as Jevhen B., who was extradited to Germany in December.
This suspect together with two other persons – Daniil B. and Vladyslav T. – sent two packages with a GPS tracking device from Cologne to Ukraine, according to the German prosecutor’s office, they did so on the orders of agents of the Russian intelligence services.
Targets of sabotage attacks
The aim of this operation was to examine logistics routes so that they could then send packages containing incendiary devices. They were supposed to ignite either in Germany or elsewhere on the way to parts of Ukraine not occupied by Russia, and cause as much damage as possible, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Authorities arrested Vladyslav and Daniil in Cologne and Kostnice in May, accusing them of espionage, sabotage and arson. The German prosecutor’s office announced in January that it accused the pair of aiding Russia in sabotage.
Germany has been on high alert since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 due to fears of sabotage directed by Moscow. In December, an Armenian, a Ukrainian and a Russian appeared in court on charges of following a former Ukrainian soldier whom they apparently tried to kill, AFP reminds.
The governments of European states accuse Russia of an ongoing campaign of sabotage attacks, but Moscow denies that it is involved in such operations.
