- Peter Báthory became a new member of the SaS party.
- It will focus on transport and infrastructure in eastern Slovakia.
- The priority of SaS is the construction of the missing 72 kilometers of highway to Zemplín.
- Báthory warns against the outflow of people from the region without improving the infrastructure.
Peter Báthory is a new member of the SaS opposition party. It will be devoted to the field of transport – regional development and infrastructure in eastern Slovakia. This was announced by SaS chairman Branislav Gröhling at Monday’s press conference in Košice. Báthory is the mayor of Baškovce in the Sobrance district. Until recently, he was also the chairman of the civic association Diaľnica na Zemplín.
The head of the SaS sees transport as a support for the economy and the development of regions. The key issue for him is the highway to Zemplín, while the priority will be to build the missing 72 kilometers. “The people of Zemplín deserve this infrastructure and I believe that Peter Báthory will be a strong voice that will push this priority forward,” he said Gröhling.
According to Báthory, without infrastructure, the outflow of people from the region will continue, and indicators such as the average wage and unemployment will not improve either. “Zemplin has huge potential and transport must be one of the main topics of the next election period,” he said.
In connection with OZ, which he headed for several years, he thinks he did his best. “You will hit a ceiling with civic activity. The highway simply cannot be built other than politically,” he concluded. According to the regional chairman of SaS Petr Čech, Báthory will also be part of the team of the Plan for the East.
