When I traveled to the Summer Olympics for STANDARD almost two years ago, I was standing at the baggage carousel when I spotted Lindsey Vonn next to me. We chatted very briefly; she had come to Paris as a supporter of Salt Lake City’s 2034 Olympic bid; the 2002 venue actually won the Winter Games in eight years. I feel uncomfortable asking for selfies, especially in a professional context it’s actually unheard of, but with Vonn I thought: It’ll be okay. She is an ex-athlete.
