The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated that the discussion on reducing working hours has become “unpostponable” and that Parliament wants to take the “protagonism” on the agenda.
The statements were made this Monday, the 9th, to journalists, after deciding to combine two PECs that deal with the subject and place the matter back on the agenda of the Chamber’s Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ).
“We are aware that, with technological advances, with everything we have today as a work tool, the discussion about reducing working hours has become unpostponable”, stated the president of the Chamber.
Opportunity with security!
Next, Motta answered a question about the decision to move forward with the proposal in the form of a PEC, instead of adhering to the government’s strategy of accelerating the agenda through a bill under constitutional urgency.
In practice, Motta joined the PEC presented by deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) to another filed in 2019 by deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG). The PT’s proposal is more advanced, however, it was stagnant in the CCJ.
“The PECs are related from a thematic point of view and there is nothing more natural than having this thought that we made so that the matter can be processed in the House. The decision was taken based on what should be the guideline of any president of a Parliament, which is to follow the rules”, he declared.

Motta continued: “At no point did we decide to postpone this debate. On the contrary, Parliament wants to take the lead on this issue. The government’s support is important, we know that the government has a favorable position.”
