In a speech full of breaches of protocol, with the use of profanity, the president () praised policies against violence against women, indirectly attacked his opponent (PL) and criticized men afraid of “a fingerprint”, in reference to the prostate cancer screening test.
The PT member was in Mauá (Grande) on Monday afternoon (9) for an event on investments in health and education.
In a campaign atmosphere, the president focused on sectors considered crucial to the results of the elections, such as young people, with whom he speaks under the banner of education, and women. Lula associated the two segments and focused on the need for women’s education, saying that “a girl without a profession will humiliate herself”.
“Woman is not man’s property. She is free”, he stated. “A woman, when she has a profession, she will live with someone if she wants, she will stay with someone if she likes it,” he said. “A woman cannot live with a man because of a plate of food, because of paying rent.”
He spoke of changing the school curriculum, from kindergarten to university, so that men learn “that they are no better than women” and said that it is necessary to intervene in cases of aggression. “A woman is no one’s punching bag. A woman has to be respected, she spends the whole day taking care of the children, washing shit, washing diapers, washing beds, washing the bathroom, making food. She comes home, has two eggs to eat […] Is it just eggs? It’s just eggs! She didn’t buy meat because she didn’t have money, it’s not her fault. ‘I don’t like the food’, go to the kitchen and make it,” he said.
In the same tone, the president stated that “we men, when we go out drinking cachaça and get home late, we want our wife to understand. ‘No, love, understand, I was with my friends, I was playing football’. We want the woman to understand, but, when we get home, and the woman isn’t there and it takes her half an hour to get there, we’re already pissed off, we’re nervous and we’re already swearing.”
Lula also criticized men who, out of prejudice, do not undergo a digital examination for the early detection of prostate cancer: “While women undergo a lot of examinations, men are embarrassed to take a fingerprint.”
In addition to the president, the ministers of Health (PT), Education, Camilo Santana (PT), and the vice-president () gave speeches — all of them in an electoral tone, comparing the current administration with that of Bolsonaro and Michel Temer (MDB).
Alckmin, for example, criticized the previous government’s education. “The only discussion was homeschooling: studying outside of school. Studying at home. A racist proposal that was born in the USA, when the Supreme Court decided that black and white people should study at the same school,” he said. “Today, the priority is daycare so that mom can have peace of mind, full-time school, nest egg,” he stated.
Padilha, on the other hand, sniped at the governor (Republicans) by saying that there are governments, like Tarcísio’s, signaling that the federal government’s Agora Tem Especialistas program is a local initiative.
“A state has created such a state table. Here in São Paulo this is happening. It goes on TV, it says that it created a table with the name of the state of São Paulo and it doesn’t show that 70% of the resources in this table come from the federal government, it is President Lula who puts it in, passes the resources on to the state and municipal departments”.
“I just want it to be recognized that the former president who governed this country did not give a real to this state during the entire period he governed,” said Padilha, in reference to Bolsonaro, Tarcísio’s political godfather.
Alongside ABC mayors affiliated with the PL, Lula also attacked his predecessor. “If every president of the Republic and all governors did this, we would have a lot fewer problems. You know that, in the last government, the states in the Northeast that were not on the president’s side did not receive a cent of aid for anything. And you can be sure that I am putting more money into the state of São Paulo than any president.”
He also nodded to PL mayors, saying he collaborated with the administrations despite being part of the opposition. “Here there are two mayors who are from the PL. The PL is Bolsonaro’s party. The PL is our biggest enemy in the Chamber. Even so, you are receiving an ambulance, because you were elected by vote, and I respect the vote of the people of your city”, he told ABC politicians.
When talking about caravans for joint exams that his government was delivering, the president committed a mistake. He said he would go to a caravan with “Marisa”, in reference to the first lady Marisa Letícia Lula da Silva, of whom he has been widowed since 2017, and then corrected himself and said “Janja” — Rosângela Lula da Silva, 59, to whom he has been married since 2022.
The PT member, candidate for re-election in the 2026 election, kicked off the election with a strategy that aims to value government programs, such as Pé-de-meia, Gás do Povo and Desenrola, .
In the morning, the president participated in an event at the Butantan Institute, in São Paulo, where he announced investment in infrastructure, production of vaccines and immunobiological inputs. At the event, Esper Kallás, director of the institute, was moved when talking about the importance of science and the SUS (Unified Health System) in the country.
The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), did not attend the event. Lula reinforced his speech, one of the pillars for the reelection campaign, of national sovereignty and, saying that if he “knew what Lampião’s bloodthirsty is in a president, he wouldn’t be provoking us.”
