The minister of the (Superior Court of Justice) Marco Buzzi told his court colleagues this Monday (9) that he will prove his innocence in the face of the allegations against him. The judge also said he was “very impacted” and had never adopted “conduct that would embarrass the family or tarnish the judiciary.”
The statement was made in a message sent by Buzzi in the STJ ministers’ WhatsApp group. It is his first demonstration to his colleagues since the extra and secret session last Wednesday (4) called by the court on the day the first complaint was reported.
“Very impacted by the news broadcast and also by finding myself admitted to hospital, under cardiac and emotional monitoring, until now I have been silent. I informally learned of facts imputed against me, which I equally repudiate. Everything is causing hurt to the people in my family and coexistence”, he said.
The following day, he was admitted to the DF Star hospital, in Brasília, and presented a medical certificate to the court. According to the STJ, there is no forecast for an increase.
Buzzi presented his defense to his peers at the time, but the ministers decided to open an inquiry to investigate the case.
In the text sent on Monday night, the minister recalls being almost 70 years old, having a 45-year marriage and three daughters and the support of his family — “my family is cohesive by my side.”
According to him, the history was not cited as proof of innocence, but as an element of “biographical coherence”.
“Without yet understanding the reasons for the charges made, I regret all this great suffering and also the wear and tear on our Court, revealing that I am subjected to pain, anguish and exposure that no one would want to experience,” he said.
The minister also said he had a clear conscience and that the facts were yet to be clarified. Buzzi also thanks colleagues who gave “the benefit of the doubt”.
“With a clear conscience, but a very agitated soul, given the premature disclosure of information, I thank those who gave me the benefit of the doubt. I trust that, through technical and impartial investigation, the facts will be fully clarified”, he stated.
The investigation opened by the STJ has an administrative nature, in the same way as the investigation carried out by the CNJ (National Council of Justice), and has the most serious consequence of compulsory retirement. Buzzi will still face criminal proceedings in the (Federal Supreme Court).
