The management (Republicans) signed an agreement with the Municipality of Água de São Pedro (180 km from São Paulo) to implement a photovoltaic solar plant, with the aim of changing the water heating model of the municipal spa, currently supplied by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), to an electrical system.
The project will also be used to install electric vehicle chargers.
Today, city hall estimates spending of R$3 million per year on energy consumption, fuel and fleet maintenance, among others.
The initiative plans to reduce emissions by almost 250 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The municipal spa’s supply system alone, which consumes 46 thousand kg of LPG per year, is responsible for the emission of around 128 tons of CO2.
The Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Natália Resende, says that the plant project could be replicated in other cities in São Paulo.
“The photovoltaic solar plant, in addition to generating renewable electrical energy and reducing city hall’s electricity expenses, represents a means for adopting energy solutions that replace the use of fossil fuels, without which they would not be viable”, he says.
