Moraes authorizes former minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira to take Enem

The minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorized this Monday (8) the former Minister of Defense Paulo Sérgio Nogueira to take the 2026 National High School Exam (Enem)..

Paulo Sérgio is serving a 19-year sentence in a closed regime, for an attempted coup d’état.

According to the decision, the defense of the former minister asked for authorization to carry out the exam on the 2nd.

“The governing legislation aims to encourage the prisoner to study, so that the request formulated involves approval”, says the document.

On September 11, 2025, Paulo Sérgio was convicted of five crimes, in the context of :

  • Armed criminal organization: 4 years and 5 months;
  • Attempt to violently abolish the democratic rule of law: 4 years and 9 months;
  • Attempted coup d’état: 4 years;
  • Damage qualified by violence and serious threat: 2 years and 1 month, in addition to a 42-day fine;
  • Deterioration of listed property: 2 years and 1 month, in addition to a 42-day fine.
