Aviation meteorologists have issued a warning information for northwestern third of Slovakia about the occurrence of numerous storms. They reach an altitude of 40,000 feet, i.e. more than 12 kilometers. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about it on the social network.
“The spatial development of the current cells is relatively chaotic, therefore it is difficult for the given aircraft crews to choose a suitable flight route. In such cases, it is necessary to limit the movement of aircraft in the wider area of storms, and passing aircraft are redirected in time by flight controllers,” explained SHMÚ.
According to meteorologists, landing planes have two options: to wait at a safe distance from storms or to use the “clean” space between individual cells. “The second option was chosen by the crew of the charter flight from Zakynthos, Greece to Ostrava, Czech Republic. Landed using a ‘gap’ between intense storm cores. However, they had to count on turbulence and mild icing, as well as advancing cells in the north of Moravia,” they concluded.
SHMÚ claims that the storms should weaken in the next few hours. During Wednesday (June 10), a cold front it will swell slightly, its progress will slow down through our territory, which will make the conditions for the formation of numerous storms and showers good againespecially in central and eastern Slovakia, he explained. During the night of Friday (June 12), according to meteorologists, there is an increased probability of a storm system passing through, which from the point of view of aviation is the worst option.
