Trump claims that thanks to his intervention, Iran and Israel stopped the attacks and peace can be on the table in a few days. He promises an agreement that will fundamentally change the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that despite mutual attacks between Iran and Israel ending on Monday, a peace deal to end the Middle East conflict could be reached within “two or three days”. TASR informs about it based on a report from the Politico portal.
- Donald Trump says a Middle East peace deal is close to being reached.
- Trump brokered a halt to mutual attacks between Iran and Israel on Monday.
- The planned agreement is intended to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and technology.
- After the signing of the agreement, the strategic Strait of Hormuz should be reopened immediately.
- Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly called off a major attack on Iran after a phone call with Trump.
“They’ve been attacking each other and now they’ve agreed through me to stop. We’re currently in the final stages of negotiating a deal that’s going to be really, really good,” Trump told reporters in New York.
Opening of the Strait of Hormuz
According to Trump, the agreement will prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and will lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. “The strait will open immediately… upon signing,” he explained.
However, Politico points out that Trump has already promised an end to the war in Iran, which began on February 28. Likewise, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the deal negotiations could “take several days,” while several weeks have since passed.
Conversations between Trump and Netanyahu
Trump said Monday that he had a “very good conversation” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, downplaying reports of a rift between the two leaders. According to the Times of Israel, Netanyahu called off a major attack on Iran after a conversation with the US president.
The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that the United States was not directly involved in the latest attacks, although US forces have sent fighter jets to protect their troops stationed in Israel. Iran attacked Israel on Sunday night, prompting retaliatory strikes. The mutual attacks finally stopped on Monday.
