Trump says he will retaliate for Iranian attack on US helicopter

The president of the USA, (Republican), stated this Tuesday (June 9, 2026) that he intends to retaliate for an attack by Iran against American helicopters flying over the Strait of Hormuz. The 2 pilots who were on the aircraft survived the offensive.

The helicopter hit was a Boeing Apache, used mainly for assault operations in conflicts. US retaliation and the Iranian attack would be a breach of the truce between the countries. On Monday (June 8), Trump repeatedly stated that Washington and Tehran were close to reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement.

“There were 2 pilots involved, both are safe and unharmed. However, the United States must, by necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”declared Trump.

Although the American president has signaled a willingness to call a truce, the Iranian government adopts a tough tone when discussing possible resolutions to the war. Iranian Foreign Minister Esmaeil Baqaei held the United States responsible for the escalation of tensions in the conflict in the Middle East, including those in Israel.

Iran and Israel have been exchanging attacks since Sunday (June 7), when the Iranians launched missiles against Israeli territory in retaliation for a bombing in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The offensive marked Tehran’s first direct attack on Israeli territory since the regional ceasefire was announced on April 8.
