Pentagon organ opens investigation into signal use for attacks on attacks

Pentagon’s inspector-general’s office announced on Thursday that he is opening an investigation into the use of the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, of a non-confidential business messaging application to coordinate the launch on March 15 of the United States attacks against Yemen Houthis.

“The purpose of this assessment is to determine to what extent the defense secretary and other DOD (Department of Defense) officials have fulfilled DOD’s policies and procedures to use a commercial messaging application for official matters,” wrote acting general inspector Steven Stebbins in a memorandum.

“In addition, we will analyze compliance with confidentiality requirements and registration retention.”
