The European Union (EU) is going to propose measures to ban the import of Russian gas by the end of 2027On Monday, Bloomberg said, referring to its resources. TASR informs this based on the TASS report.
In June, the European Commission (EC) plans to present a proposal to ban all gas imports under new agreements with Russia as well as existing spots. At the same time, the Commission should publish a proposal to restrict the supply of the necessary gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, Bloomberg reported on Thursday (6 May). According to its sources, measures focused on spot contracts should enter into force this year and restrictions on long -term contracts by the end of 2027.
The timetable depends on the EU’s ability to ensure alternative sources of LNG from Africa, Canada, Qatar and the United States through negotiations with US President Donald Trump’s administration. Reuters has previously reported that the Brussels Commission is assessing legal opportunities that would allow EU companies to terminate current gas supply contracts with Russia without threatening sanctions.
