Geert Wilders, the Dutch leader of the extreme right, has threatened on Monday with abandoning it if they do not close, “in a matter of more weeks”, the borders to the asylum applicants. In a press conference convened suddenly, Wilders has presented a ten -measures battery that he considers unplazable and among which he also is. The Ultra politician wants to resort to the border guards to reject those who try to enter. It also proposes to close some reception centers and not create new ones. Although Wilders says that it does not threaten the fall of the government, the political crisis can be triggered if it does not achieve its purpose.
In September 2024, Wilders already threatened to destabilize the Government if the so -called Emergency Law was not approved, which proposed to declare duration without asking for consent prior to Parliament and that it hardened to the maximum the reception criteria in the country. A month later, he had to accept a reduction of the norm, which became urgent. The nationalist leader, however, considers that the measures have taken to apply and have raised the pressure by remembering that his party was “only we won the elections,” he emphasized.
The current Dutch government coalition is composed of four formations, one of which is that of Wilders. The training has four ministers: health, economy, infrastructure and water, foreign trade and development, and asylum and migration aid. The latter is the most interest for the ultra politician.
During the press conference, the PVV leader has indicated that their voters had been promised “the strictest admission policy in history” and that it would be “at the forefront in Europe, compared to other countries.” Wilders has claimed that the measures have been insufficient, has considered that they are “behind Germany and Italy” and has warned that “the limit has been reached.” Its policies collide, however, with the guidelines of the European Union, which stipulate that member countries must process asylum requests.
The closure of the borders to those who ask for asylum heads their list of requests. He is accompanied by a reinforcement of border surveillance, with the help of the army if necessary. For their part, Syrians with temporary residence permission must return to their country within a maximum period of six months. “If necessary, by force,” he said at the press conference. These are 60,000 people, according to their calculations. Wilders has assured that most of the Syrian territory is “safe” enough for the asylees to be repatriated. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also studies whether Syria has conditions to guarantee the safety of people returned after the fall of the Bachar the Asad regime.
Wilders has considered that the agreements between the other three parties of the asylum coalition “are insufficient to change course.” This is the peasant-citizen movement, new social contract and the Popular Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Among the other measures presented in its ultimatum is the temporary suspension of family reunification and the expulsion of the reception centers of asylum seekers who already have a refugee statute.
The conservative leader suggests that applicants live with relatives, compatriots or other people, in the Netherlands. In addition to proposing the closure of the centers, it requires that there are no new openings. The Wilders decalogue hardens, in turn, the situation of foreigners convicted of some crime, who would lose their residence permit and would be forced to leave the country. It also wants to expel people with dual nationality convicted of violent or sexual crimes, and take away the Dutch passport.
In his speech at the press, Wilders has assured that his party has been “very reasonable and patient during the last year.” “As of today we take off our gloves,” he said, referring to the attempt to show his demands more clearly. Although he does not know how far his government partners would be willing to arrive, he recalled that he had to renounce the Government’s Headquarters so that the Executive went ahead. “As the VVD did not allow me to be Prime Minister [para que se pudiera pactar la actual coalición] A formed [el primer ministro]. Not a Wilders government, “he said. And he has risted:” But if nothing else happens, we leave. “
