Exactly ten years ago, in Great Britain, there was a lot of discussion about whether babies were allowed to carry the genetic material from three people. The occasion was progress in the therapies inheritable defects of the so -called mitochondrial DNA (short: Mtdna), which is inherited from a purely maternal side. By replacing the defective MTDNA of the mother by the MTDNA of a donor, these diseases can be avoided.
