Nash Keen is the name of the baby who moved the world – born with only 21 weeks of gestation, 285 grams and 24 centimeters in Iowa, United States. A true miracle of medicine and human strength, Nash now celebrates its first birthday, contrary to all expectations.
Birth took place on July 5, 2024, more than four months ahead of expected, making him officially the most premature baby in the world, according to the Guinness World Records.
Parents, Mollie and Randall Keen, had already faced a painful loss when her daughter McKinley was born just 18 weeks. Therefore, Nash’s pregnancy brought joy, but also a lot of fear. “We didn’t have much hope,” the mother said.
Despite the first critical hours and an extremely delicate beginning of life, Nash surprised everyone. He spent six months at the neonatal intensive care unit, facing daily challenges with the support of a highly specialized medical team. “Your resilience was extraordinary,” said neonatologist Amy Stanford.
Today, although it still depends on oxygen and is fueled by a probe, Nash has already begun to explore the world in its own way: it turns, smiles constantly and shows its vibrant personality whenever you hear the affection of the family. “Whenever they call it ‘Potato Nash’, he encourages himself and tries to get up,” says his father proudly.
The next step? Introduce pasty foods and continue to closely monitor your development. Doctors are confident that a small defect in the heart will be resolved over time.
Nash is, above all, an example of hope, courage and overcoming. As the father said, “I came to this world to fight – and I’m going to fight.”
