According to unnamed officials, coordination between ministries related to the functioning of the Council has already begun. The body that will be based at the Berlin Federal Office will enable the government to make informed decisions and use strategic forecasts to identify medium and long -term threats, DPA said.

Ministers and experts will be represented

The establishment of the National Security Council was included in the coalition agreement, which after this year’s elections closed the block of the Christian CDU/CSU office of Friedrich Merza and the Social Democrats (SPD).

The Council will be chaired by the Federal Chancellor, besides him, ministers, representatives of the German Länder and representatives of the Allied countries and organizations, including the European Union and NATO, will be represented. The leading German security experts will also be invited.

The Council will work on a similar principle as similar authorities in the United States and Britain. It will focus on various aspects of national security, such as internal, external, digital and economic security. The body will meet in case of crisis situations, but will also develop long -term strategies.
