Polish President Nawrocki vetoed a law on extension of assistance to the Ukrainians

The legislation was to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees up to March 4, 2026 and adjust the payment of the contribution of 800 plus (800 zloté = 188 euros) to children.

On Monday, Polish President Karol Nawrocki vetoed an amendment to the Act on Assistance of Citizens of Ukraine, which was to extend the effectiveness of financial support for refugees living in Poland. This is reported by the Warsaw Newsletter TASR according to the report of PAP.

Nawrocki justified his veto by not dealing with the question of conditional on the payment of a contribution by employment in Poland. “I will not change my opinion and I believe that 800 plus should only be available to those Ukrainians who will work in Poland,” the president said. The proposal for the benefit to pay only to working migrants is also supported by Nawrock’s main counter -candidate in the Rafal Trzaskowski presidential election.

According to the proposal of the Party of Law and Justice (PiS), which supported the President in the elections, contributions were supposed to be subject to employment or business and the rules of citizenship should also be tightened. However, Parliament did not include these modifications to the text.

At the same time, the amendment, which Nawrocki refused to sign, was supposed to extend the circle of children authorized to the contribution by those who graduated from secondary school before the age of 18 and continue their studies at the university or professional courses. However, without the President’s signature, the legal standard does not take effect.
