Vladimir Putin arrived in China to the Shanghai Summit

The summit is attended by 10 countries, another 16 are observers. The summit will be followed by a military tour.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived on Saturday to the Chinese city of Tchien-Nin, where, together with leaders of approximately 20 other countries, he will participate in a Si Jin-pching summit organized by Chinese President. Referring to Russian and Chinese state media, AFP and Reuters reported this, TASR writes.

The Shanghai Samit of the Cooperation Organization (ŠOS) will take place in the port city south of Beijing on Sunday and Monday. This will be followed on Wednesday by a great military show in the Chinese capital on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Ten members of the SOS are China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus. Another 16 countries have an observer’s or “dialogue partner”. Beijing and Moscow sometimes highlight this organization as an alternative to the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO).

Summit is to strengthen solidarity

Putin said in an interview with the Chinese Sin-Chua news agency published on Saturday that the summit “will strengthen the SOS capacity to respond to current challenges and threats and strengthen solidarity in a common Eurasian space”. “This will all help to shape the fairer multipolar world order,” Kremlin chief said.

Observers say that Beijing and Moscow want to use platforms as a SOS to gain influence, as China is getting into contradictions with the United States and Europe with its demands on Taiwan and Russia by invasion of Ukraine, AFP said.

The first day is expected to be designed especially for individual meetings among leaders, DPA reported. Summit participants are also planning a joint statement. According to China, this is the largest SUOS Summit since its foundation in 2001. Organizers expect leaders of 20 states and ten organizations. Putin should have interviews with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the war in Ukraine and Iranian President Masoud Pezekijan on Tehran nuclear program on Monday.
