Minister Alexandre de Moraes said on Tuesday (9) that the goal of the meeting between Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and military commanders in December 2022 was “clear and crystalline”: discussing an intervention to reverse the outcome of the elections.
The rapporteur of the coup plot’s criminal action said the meeting at the Dawn Palace was not a debate about political turbulence, as the defenses claim, but a meeting to enable Bolsonaro’s perpetuation in power through a military intervention decree.
According to the testimony of the former Army Commander Freire Gomes, the meeting also featured Almir Garnier, then commander of the Navy, and advisers of the president. In a big screen, the so -called “considered” to justify exception measures were presented.

Moraes pointed out that even without getting full support of the commanders – only Garnier would have adhered to the plan, according to PGR – Bolsonaro kept the posture of denying the electoral results.
Before traveling to the United States in late December 2022, he left the message that “the Armed Forces never refused a call from the Brazilian people.” For the minister, this narrative gave fuel to the attacks of January 8.

“In the history of the world, in comparative law, of Brazil, this has one name only: coup of state,” said Moraes, remembering that Bolsonaro tried to articulate both the non -possession of Lula and Alckmin and the continuity of his own government by unconstitutional roads.

The first class of the Supreme Court, chaired by Minister Cristiano Zanin, resumed on Tuesday (9) the analysis of the complaint against the so-called “crucial core” of the alleged coup plot, appointed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) as responsible for articulating measures to prevent the possession of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after the election of 2022.
The rapporteur of the case, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rejected all preliminary defendants argued and now presents his vote regarding the merit. The trial will have extraordinary sessions until September 12.

The eight defendants are accused of armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, attempted coup, damage qualified by violence and serious threat and deterioration of listed heritage. In the case of branch, part of the accusations was suspended by decision of the House of Representatives.
