- SHMI predicts heavy rainfall in Slovakia.
- The precipitation is caused by a pressure lower from the Adriatic area.
- The largest quantities will fall on windy slopes.
- Local precipitation can exceed 70 millimeters.
The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI) expects heavy rainfall in Slovakia from the coming hours. The reason is the pressure low, which will move from the Adriatic region through the territory of Slovakia and Moravia above Poland on the undulating cold front. Meteorologists informed about it on the social network.
“The rainfall will fall out mostly in the warm part of the front in a strong south to southeast flow. This will also bring strong orographic effects on rainfall in interaction with the mountains. On windy slopes and ridge positions (even below them), we expect a significant increase in rainfall, ” stated.
They added that more than 50 will fall locally in these areas, occasionally more than 70 millimeters. On the contrary, according to meteorologists, precipitation will be significantly less, usually five to ten times less than the wind.
