As regards the “depth and extent of relationships” between Lord Mandelson with Jeffrey Epstein, Doughty said that email communication indicated significant differences compared to what was known about their relationships at the time of his appointment to the ambassador.
According to the opinion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “the new information is Mandelson’s remark that the first conviction of Jeffrey Epstein was incorrect and should be attacked”.
“Given these facts and respect for the victims of Epstein’s crimes, it was immediately withdrawn from the position of Ambassador,” the opinion said.
