Governor of SE goes to the Libertadores final and is criticized – 12/02/2024 – Power

The governor of Sergipe, Fábio Mitidieri (PSD), who went on leave and reported on social media that he would recover from pneumonia, was seen last Saturday (30) in the stands of the Monumental de Nuñes stadium, in Buenos Aires, in the final of the America’s Cup.

Mitidieri stepped down from his position last Monday (25), when he handed over the position to vice-governor Zezinho Sobral (PSB). He informed the Legislative Assembly that he would be absent from the country for private reasons, during which time he would travel to Buenos Aires and Mendonza, in Argentina.

In a post on social media, however, he hinted that his departure from his position would be for health reasons: “I took a few days off to ensure that my health is 100% after pneumonia.”

The case gained repercussion on social media after the governor was filmed broadcasting the match between and . Mitidieri is a Botafogo fan and celebrated the team’s success in the Libertadores – the Rio team.

In an interview with Sheet this Monday (2), Mitidieri said he had been the target of “great cowardice” and sent the document with the request for leave made to the Assembly, which talks about removal for private reasons.

“A week before, I was hospitalized with pneumonia and the doctors advised me to take a few days off to recover my body. I explained about my trip and they released me. They just asked for moderation. I said it was difficult because people from Botafogo suffer a lot,” said the governor .

He stated that he requested a private leave, without pay, and that he informed the days and destination of the trip. He also denied that he had requested medical leave and criticized the media outlets that suggested that he presented a certificate when leaving his position.

“Honestly, this is cowardice. I went to live a unique and special moment with my family. We are a family of four generations of Botafoguenses. I did nothing wrong,” said the governor.

He also denies that he was caught at the stadium. “Anyone who wants to hide officially announces where they are going and for how long?” he asked.

In a statement, the government of Sergipe reported that the trip to Argentina was paid for by the governor with his own resources, without any use of public funds.

He also clarified that the governor complied with the medical recommendation to withdraw from activities after a week of treatment.

He was admitted to the hospital on November 15th, when he was diagnosed with pneumonia, and remained in hospital treatment until the 17th. Since then, he has been released to carry out his administrative schedule remotely, at his home.
