Juraj Blanár negotiated on the outskirts of the UN General Assembly in New York with Andrij Sybih.

The ministers have followed the recent prime ministers and discussed the potential of mutual defense cooperation, energy security and continued support for the integration of Ukraine into the EU.

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár met his Ukrainian counterpart Andrij Sybih at the edge of the UN General Assembly in New York. On Monday’s statement on Facebook, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this, TASR reports.

Sybiha negotiated with Blanar, among other things, about the potential of the Ukrainian-Slovak defense cooperation

The meeting followed the negotiations between the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who took place on September 5 at Uzhgorod. At that time, the leaders spoke about energy in connection with the Ukrainian attacks on the Druzhba pipeline, which several times led to the suspension of oil transport to Slovakia.

Sybiha, according to the statement of his resort, negotiated with Blanar about the future of European security architecture, the potential of the Ukrainian-Slovak defense cooperation through the SAFE (Security for Europe) defense loan tool and energy security issues.

Sybiha thanked Blanár for the entry of Slovakia into a coalition of civil protection shelters

Ministers also discussed the development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Slovakia and another round of intergovernmental consultations. These took place last June 2 in Kiev at the level of representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries.

“I thanked my colleague for the entry of Slovakia into the coalition of protective shelters of civil protection and its continued support for the integration of Ukraine into the EU,” Sybiha said.

Blanár is in New York as part of the delegation of President of the Slovak Republic Petr Pellegrini, who participates in the 80th meeting of the UN General Assembly. The Ministry of Slovak Diplomacy informed that several accompanying events and bilateral meetings are part of the commercial trip of Blanar. Together with the President, they met compatriots in East Brunswick, New Jersey at the 47th Slovak Heritage Festival.
