The main individual awards in football knows this Monday (22), from 16h (Brasília), in Théâtre Du Châtelet, in, its winners regarding performance in season 2024/2025. Organized by the magazine France Footballwill reward better players, coach, goalkeeper, revelation and club of the world, based on the votes of journalists selected to the jury.
The highlight is the best player in the world awards. With 30 nominated by the magazine, it is the Paris Saint-Germain Offelé Démbelé, who emerges as a favorite to receive the Golden Ball on Monday. In the French press, the striker’s victory is given for certain. But there is still the possibility that other names will appear last minute.
Démbelé is highlighted, mainly, for the collective achievements by PSG last season. The French club won the Triple Crown, with Champions League titles, call 1 (French Championship) and France Cup. In addition, it reached the decision of the Club World Cup, but was defeated by Chelsea.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, both from Barcelona, lean on the result of the 2024 gold ball to run for the dispute. In the last year, Real Madrid striker was expected to win the award, but was surprised by Manchester City’s victory. In response, the merengue delegation refused to honor the ceremony in boycott.
Yamal, besides putting himself as one of the Golden Ball favorites, should be awarded the Kopa trophy this year. The category awards the best under-21 player in the world. With only 18 years completed, the Spanish striker benefits from the performance last season, when he won the Spanish Championship and the King Cup for Barcelona, and his individual numbers to project himself to the trophy.
In the jury, 100 journalists are selected from the magazine, of the 100 best -placed countries in the FIFA ranking. To vote, they must send a list of ten names – which must be among the 30 indicated to the award – in descending order of merit. Then add the points to define the winner and best player in the world in 2025.
In addition, journalists should take into account three fundamental criteria to exercise their vote:
– Individual performance;
– Collective performance and team achievements;
– Class and Fair Play;
Best Women’s Player
In the second main category of the night, the dispute should focus on three names: Spanish Alexia Patellas and Aitana Bonmat, both from Barcelona, and Alessia Russian, an Englishman who was the great highlight of Arsenal last season.
Alessia Russo, 19, has in her favor the title won just about the Barcelona rivals in the final of the Female Champions League. She can end the sovereignty of the Spanish duo, who divides the merits of the Golden Ball exclusively about her since 2021 – two achievements for each, with Bonmati having won last season.
The award was instituted by France Football in 2018. In addition to the European trio, the Brazilian Marta, nominated this year, comes as a fourth name in the Golden Ball. In her career, the Brazilian was elected six times best player in the world by FIFA, but never won the award of the French magazine.
Favorites in other awards
In addition to the awards for best players in the world, France Football awards six other titles on Monday, namely:
– Best coach (male and female)
-Kopa Trophy (Best Sub-21 Male and Female)
– Yashin Trophy (Best Men’s and Female Goalkeeper)
– Best Club in the World (male and female)
It is nominated for the categories of Best Coach of Women’s Football (Arthur Elias, of the Brazilian National Team) and Best Club in the World in Men’s (Botafogo). The trend, however, is that neither win their respective awards tonight.
For the best coach, Luis Enrique, from Paris Saint-Germain, and Renée Slegers, from Arsenal, emerge as favorites in the male and female categories, respectively. For the best club in the world, the magazine must reward the local club, PSG, for the achievements already mentioned this season.
At Kopa, besides Yamal, Linda Caicedo, Real Madrid Colombian, and Barcelona’s Spanish Lopez Vicky Lopez, has a slight favoritism about the other names. Finally, at the Yashin trophy, Gianluigi Donnarumma, today at Manchester City, projects to the same reasons as Démbelé. The goalkeeper dominated European football last season during the time he was at Paris Saint-Germain.
