Fiocruz receives registration for Health and Environment Olympics

According to Fiocruz, the initiative stimulates the creation of interdisciplinary projects that connect health, environment and educational practices, forming new generations of citizens committed to the sustainable future of the planet.

“OBSMA goes beyond individual merit. It values ​​interdisciplinary pedagogical work and recognizes the efforts of schools to encourage creative projects, which unite scientific knowledge and social commitment,” says the national coordinator of the Olympics and coordinator of scientific dissemination of Fiocruz’s vice-presidency, information and communication, Cristina Araripe.

The Brazilian Health and Environment Olympics was created in 2001 and, over 12 editions, mobilized more than 510,000 students, 28,500 teachers and 3,600 schools from all Brazilian states. Projects can be registered in the modalities: audiovisual production, text production and science project. In this edition, the work carried out between January 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 are valid.

“Teachers play a key role in the OBSMA process. They are the ones who turn ideas into educational and creative projects to engage students. By enrolling a job, the teacher not only values ​​their pedagogical practice, but also contributes to training more critical and conscious young people,” said Cristina Araripe.

In the regional sphere, 42 projects will be chosen, which will compete for the national phase in the campus Fiocruz Manguinhos, in Rio de Janeiro. Each team will have a teacher and student invited to participate in the final ceremony, with travel expenses funded by Fiocruz and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). In the end, six projects will receive the title of national highlights, as well as honorable mentions and opportunities to participate in scientific events.
