PS promises to present "Alternative Path" to the approved Foreign Law with the support of the arrival

Despite criticizing the fact that the Government submits the Foreign Act during the Electoral Campaign for Municipalities, the PS Secretary-General promises to advance with an alternative proposal to which he was approved again with the support of the arrival.

The PS secretary-general said on Tuesday that his party has “an alternative path” in the regulation of immigration and will present a proposal in this regard, but has removed doubts of constitutionality about the amendments to the Foreign Law.

“For us, there were no questions of unconstitutionality, we will not even ask this question. We now leave the matter in the hands of the President of the Republic,” said José Luís Carneiro, in the Assembly of the Republic, after being asked if the PS admitted an eventual request for successive supervision to the Constitutional Court.

These statements to journalists were made after the vote on the new version of the Foreign Law in Plenary, following the lead of the Constitutional Court in August, approved with votes in favor of PSD, CDS-PP, arrives, IL and JPP and votes against PS, Free, PCP, BE and PAN.

O PS Secretary-General accused the PSD/CDS-PP government of having chosen “a path to legislate on perceptions” in immigration and argued that his party has “more solid proposals to ensure the compatibility of all values, security, integration, economy and social development”.

“And these proposals will present them and we will present them more structured in the future, so that we can see that we have an alternative path to the one that is the path that the government, with the support of the arrival, presented here,” he added.

According to José Luís Carneiro, “The economy will resent decisions that are being made“by the government.

“I was yesterday with the CAP (Confederation of Farmers from Portugal) and I was told that 50% of wage earners in agriculture are workers from other stops,” he said.

As for the PS, he promised that he will always have an attitude of great responsibility “and will present a legislative proposal that corresponds to his perspective on how to” respond to the needs of the country’s immigrant labor “ensuring the integration of immigrants” with all the security and all guarantees for those who come. “

About the changes approved today, José Luís Carneiro said that in the morning, at the end of the debate on this matter in plenary, was contacted by the government, which manifested itself “available to be able to evaluate some of the proposals” of the PS.

“Then there was a dialogue that remained even around lunchtime, but the proposals we presented were not accepted. And because they were not accepted, we could not accompany the government voting favorably,” he said.

The PS Secretary-General stressed that There was a PS proposal that “deserved acceptance and was voted favorably”, to “carry out bilateral work agreements, in order to ensure safe and regulated migrations at the origin, traffic and also in reception”.

“But we had another very relevant proposal. It has to do with the visa for the search for work, which are those that are most sought after, namely by our economy. These visas for the search for work were presented with a very solid proposal that aims to articulate with the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP),” he said.
