The Minister of Justice and Public Security, praised the work of the Federal Police and said he fully trusted the corporation in relation to the findings of the investigation into the 2022 coup plot.
“I want to publicly express my full confidence in the Federal Police, and say that it is a republican state police, and that the minister has no interference. The minister has no interference. I don’t know who the delegate selected for the investigation is, no. I want to know what the result will be because this is something the police have absolute autonomy over”, he declared.
Lewandowski was questioned by the senator (-RJ) about a possible use of the PF for the purpose of political persecution of the former president (PL) and opposition parliamentarians in the case of the inquiry.
“Whoever commands the Federal Police, therefore, is a government corporation, a State corporation, and your excellency can be sure that the investigations conducted by the Federal Police are carried out with great technique, sobriety, without any political bias and are supervised by the ministry public are always directed by a judge”, said the minister to the senator.
In his questioning, Flávio Bolsonaro said he believes the population’s view is that there is persecution and political bias surrounding the PF investigation.
“What is happening today is that there is a small group within the Federal Police, handpicked by the STF minister to persecute not only Bolsonaro, but parliamentarians who are currently opposing the current government,” said the senator.
The statements were made during the minister’s participation in a session of the Public Security Commission, when questioned by senator Sergio Moro (União-PR), author of the invitation for the minister to participate together with senator Sérgio Petecão (PSD-AC).
The parliamentarians’ requests for Lewandowski’s presence asked the minister to provide information about the plans and goals of his management at the head of the ministry and clarifications about the actions of the department and the Federal Police in combating organized crime during his mandate.
