Long weight training and cardiovascular exercises, restricted diet and physical and mental fatigue due to all the effort that preparation requires, sleep regulation. These are tasks that a professional bodybuilder – as well as the people around him – have to deal with on a daily basis.
Currently, one of the most influential couples in the fitness world is formed by Juliana Salimeni, known as Juju, and Diogo Basaglia, known as Basa. While the ex-panicat lives the sporting lifestyle, but has never competed, the businessman is days away from making his debut at the Olympia, the most competitive and prestigious championship in world bodybuilding.
In an interview with the column, Juju says that she “couldn’t live with someone who doesn’t have the same lifestyle” as hers. The model and drum queen also says that, despite not being a bodybuilder, her life is as regimented as that of her fiancé, who competes in the Men’s Physique category and won the DC Pro – a bodybuilding competition that takes place in the city of Manassas, in Virginia, in the United States – in June this year.
“He and I work 100% with our bodies, so this life of extreme dedication is extremely important so that we can maintain our physiques and our goals. The fact that I also live this way helps me understand the restrictions of an athlete. I believe that the couple has to be very connected and similar for the relationship to work”, adds the businesswoman.
The couple has invested in the gym business and opened a unit in Alphaville, in São Paulo. The gym is open 24 hours a day, has more than 600 machines, a parking lot with more than a thousand spaces, a helipad, shops and even a barbershop.
In an interview, the professional athlete explains how the idea came about: “As there was no high standard gym here, I took it to Betão [Roberto Rautenberg, fundador da rede de academias] the idea of opening a unit in Alphaville”.
This year’s edition of the Olympia will take place between Thursday (9) and Saturday (11), in Las Vegas. Together with Basa, 11 athletes will represent Brazil in Men’s Physique.
