How much Lisbon is there in a film festival and in the music of Cais Sodré Funk Connection?

In this week’s poster, we preview DocLisboa, with the festival director, Helder Beja, and talk about music, with João Cabrita, from Cais Sodré Funk Connection.

The 23rd edition of DocLisboa is almost starting. The kick-off takes place on October 16th. There will be 211 films, in total, from 54 countries. 39 are world premieres. Important numbers in a selection that tries to “encapsulate the world”, according to the festival director in conversation with Cartaz.

One of the missions is “to introduce new cinemas”, he adds. Therefore, it will receive more than 300 international guests, with Egyptian Hala Elkoussy being the guest director. The international film festival continues to take place in emblematic theaters in Lisbon and, therefore, also draws on its DNA.

In relation to changes in the capital, particularly with regard to the disappearance of emblematic places, Helder Beja concludes: “The great celebration of our times is to resist.” And that It’s important “the city doesn’t just become a theme park”.

There’s always a party for Cais Sodré Funk Connection. It’s impossible to listen to the songs without tapping your foot. To celebrate 15 years of dancing and good times, the supergroup released their fourth album “Um Quarto na Rua Cor-de-Rosa”. It is the first written and sung in Portuguese and also pays homage to the capital’s iconic street, which recently lost MusicBox, an important cultural center.

“I don’t really know what will stay, restaurants and terraces will remain, but in terms of culture… Lisbon residents probably won’t have much to call them there. Basically, it’s another blow to neighborhood life”, says João Cabrita, from the group, in an interview with the program.

The celebration of the date will be done together with the public: on the day October 22 present their new work, live, at Casa Capitão, in Lisbon.
