“Are we really making healthy and sustainable choices?”
A DECO INFORMS…
On the day October 16the World Healthy Eating Daya date that invites us to reflect on our eating habits and the impact of the choices we make daily — not only on our health, but also on the environment and society.
We live in a time when the food supply is abundant and diverse, but not always balanced. The challenge is to distinguish between what is practical and what is truly nutritious. THE healthy eating It is not a fad, but an essential necessity to prevent disease, increase vitality and promote physical and mental well-being.
In Portugal, the mediterranean dietrecognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity represents a unique way of life. This food model is based on fresh, local and seasonal products, with a predominance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fish, olive oil and nuts. More than a simple diet, it is a lifestyle that values the pleasure of the table, moderation and family life.
However, eating healthily today also involves thinking about sustainability. Our choices influence the planet: intensive production, food waste and excessive meat consumption have significant environmental consequences. Therefore, choose local and seasonal products, reduce waste, cook more at home e give preference to water These are simple but powerful gestures that benefit both the body and the environment.
O World Healthy Eating Day It is, therefore, more than an anniversary: it is an invitation to change. Small daily decisions — like planning meals, valuing local producers or reducing ultra-processed foods — can make a huge difference.
Ultimately, taking care of our food means taking care of ourselves, our culture and the planet.
