The 57-year-old Venezuelan opponent was announced this Friday (10) as the winner of the 2025 Prize. Recognized as the main voice of resistance to the Chavista regime, currently led by , Corina has become a symbol of the peaceful struggle for freedom and democracy in .
No opposition parliamentarians celebrated the decision and highlighted the meaning of the award for all of Latin America.
The deputy leader of the Opposition, deputy Sanderson (PL-RS), stated that the choice represents “the tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela and a peaceful fight against the dictatorship”. “The award emphasizes the defense of democracy as an instrument of peace. May this example also serve as an inspiration to Brazilians who do not accept censorship and oppression”, declared the parliamentarian.
Representative Rodrigo Valadares (União-SE) classified the award as “a message to the world that truth and courage overcome fear”. “María Corina is proof that peaceful resistance can defeat authoritarianism. An example that inspires all citizens who fight for freedom”, he said.
Deputy Captain Alberto Neto (PL-AM) stated that the choice “exposes the farce of dictatorships that disguise themselves as democracies in Latin America”. “While Maduro arrests and persecutes the people, the world recognizes who truly represents peace: those who fight against tyranny,” he highlighted.
Congressman Coronel Tadeu (PL-SP) also celebrated the achievement and questioned: “It’s a great day for freedom. The Nobel Peace Prize rewards those who face a cruel regime with courage and faith. And Lula’s silence? And the applause of women on the left? Where are they? Difficult for those who only congratulate dictators.”
