Intercidades lost a carriage between Grândola and Canal Caveira. One of the vehicles became disconnected from the rest. Nobody was injured.
One train was left without a carriage while traveling between Lisbon-Oriente and Faro.
The newspaper describes: the train intercity had left Lisboa at 2:02 pm and would arrive at Faro at 5:35 p.m. But he was left without a carriage between Grândola and Canal Caveira.
What happened was a breakage of couplings. One of the vehicles left the rest of the composition. But no one was injured.
The newspaper explains that not a potentially very dangerous situation: breaking a coupling causes a rupture in the general brake line – and then the composition soon stops.
This happens on all CP trains: carriages are always connected via automatic braking system ducts; if any carriage leaves, the entire train stops immediately
The train was retained on the road. The carriage was, in practice, abandoned a few meters from the rest of the composition.
Then a freight train from Medway to resolve the situation; This freight train was close to the location, on a journey from Setúbal to Minas de Neves Corvo.
The Medway vehicle pulled over to a branch line to drop off the wagons, to rescue the intercidades – which was towed to Grândola.
The origin of this incident would have been a maintenance failure which caused the coupling to break. CP is having difficulty carrying out general inspections of the carriages.
A preliminary analysis has already been opened to collect information.
