Commission approves project that fines anyone who leaves a child alone in a condominium

A Committee on Social Security, Social Assistance, Childhood, Adolescence and Family of the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that provides for a fine of five to 20 minimum wages for those who leave a child under 12 years old without supervision in vehicles, penthouses or common areas in condominiums, such as swimming pools and elevators.

The measure will be incorporated into the ECA (Child and Adolescent Statute). The text also establishes a fine of three to 10 minimum wages for property managers who do not post, in a visible place, information about age groups and conditions of use of shared spaces.

The approved proposal is the deputy’s (PSD-RJ) replacement for PL 4309/20, by former deputy Flordelis (RJ), and PL 237/21, which is being attached. According to the rapporteur, the version adjusts the wording and adapts the content to the ECA.

“It is very important that public authorities, property managers or any other administrator of buildings and condominiums, in addition to parents or guardians, are responsible for supervising children and adolescents in order to avoid accidents”, declared Laura Carneiro.

The text now goes to the Finance and Taxation and CCJ (Constitution, Justice and Citizenship) committees for analysis. To become law, it still needs to be approved by the .
